Overview

Our research is focused on understanding and developing therapies for neurodegenerative diseases. We are particularly interested in how alterations in mitochondrial function and chronic inflammation interact in the neurodegenerative process. Our work includes examining postmortem brain specimens from humans and animal models to identify neuropathological signatures associated with disease. We use in vitro models to dissect neuropathogenic mechanisms and test therapeutic strategies in neurons, astrocytes, and microglia. Ultimately, the goal of our work is to identify therapeutic targets and treatments that will improve clinical outcomes for people suffering from neurological disorders.
